The internet has been one of most amazing phenomenon in the arena of technology. It has attracted millions of users worldwide and is continually attracting users exponentially.
Along with this, the number of websites have also grown. Websites are used for informational, promotional, and for e-commerce purposes.
If you are one of those who plan to put up an online business, having a website alone is not enough. But it is just the start of your online journey. It is a fact that without marketing your site, you will never have visitors to your site and nobody would see and know what you have to offer.
Many webmasters believe that content is king. If your site has good and has original content, other sites would link to you as a resource. However, without informing other sites in the online world, many sites will never even know of your site. Therefore, even though content is king, marketing online is still a necessity.
One of the best marketing process online is by creating a link strategy for your site.
The most common link strategy is creating a reciprocal links with other sites. This may be done by requesting other sites to link with you while you in turn will link your site to theirs. However, it may be a tedious process. Another way is to automate your linking process using an online company whose business is solely for creating reciprocal links with other sites.
By creating reciprocal links with other sites, you will be creating a links page which in turn becomes a directory in your website. Because you have made a reciprocal links with other sites, you will be able to establish your website's presence in other sites too. A link to your site is
counted as a vote to your site.
However, it should be noted that most search engines base their searches on the link popularity of a site. Therefore, the more links a site has, the popular it will become, and the more chances it has to land in the top ten list of a search engine.
Although links is a basis by most search engines, some search engines take relevancy as a great factor. In other words, it is best for your site to link with other sites which have the same category as your site. Example, if your site deals on clocks, then you can link with sites that deal on wall clocks, cuckoo clocks, grandfather clocks, and others.
An important thing to note is - never link to Free For All (FFA) sites and other link farms. By linking to these sites, your site may be penalized by the relevancy search engines and you may never be found in searches.
While it is true that the internet is continually growing, it is also evolving in so many ways. Even search engines change rules every now and then. Unless your business is already a very popular one, it will be hard for your site to have visitors without any linking strategy. Having no visitors to your e-commerce site means no business.
